Dros y misoedd nesaf byddwn yn clywed am fywyd ym Mhrifysgol Harper Adams gan rai o’r myfyrwyr Cymreig sydd yn astudio yno – ychydig o newyddion am eu hastudiaethau a’u cymdeithasu! I ddechrau, dyma ychydig am gefndir Harper Cymru, y Gymdeithas Cymraeg. Gobeithio wnewch fwynhau clywed rhai o’u hanesion dros y cylchlythyrau i ddod.
To begin, here’s some background information on Harper Cymru, the Welsh Society. We hope you enjoy hearing from them over the forthcoming newsletters.
Who is Harper Cymru?
Harper Cymru is the Welsh Society at Harper Adams University in Shropshire. It is an inclusive society for any student from Wales at Harper or for anyone with a strong Welsh connection. It welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds and this great mix makes it a great society – and one that provides a real sense of home for Welsh students within the university.
What do we do?
We want to create a connection with each of our members in order for them to feel like they belong to something at Harper. It is a nice feeling to be able to talk to fellow students from Wales or with a real connection to Wales – it can make all the difference when living away from home. We run social events twice a month, as well as meetings with other societies, trips and formal events. Ultimately, through all we do, we provide a support network for our members.
Aims for this year?
So far this year we have seen some of our biggest continuous attendances to our social events in a number of years. This is something we would like to continue moving forward. We had our first society trip to the Royal Welsh Winter Fair. We also raised over £800 for the Movember charity. For the rest of the academic year, we hope to have another trip, host a Welsh themed event in the Student Union for St David’s Day, organise society merchandise and the society annual dinner. We’ve got a packed few months ahead (we do study too, honest).
Link to Agri Trader
As a society, we receive no funding whatsoever from the University, therefore fund raising and sponsorship is critical to ensure the events we organise are viable. Agri Trader has this year provided a fantastic £1,000 in sponsorship, making it possible for us to run events at a lower cost for members – which in turn has helped increase our membership and attendance at events.
To show our appreciation the Agri Trader logo is now proudly emblazoned on our society jumpers – and we’ll provide some photos of the jumpers enjoying a few social outings in the next few weeks!
Diolch mawr i Agri Trader am gefnogi Harper Cymru ac edrychwn ymlaen yn fawr i fod yn ran o’r cylchlythyr yn 2023.
