Fundraising
Every year Harper Cymru students fundraise for charity to make a contribution to the wider community; this year has started strong with two charities benefitting from the efforts of society members already.
In November, Harper Cymru members have raised a total of £4,040.75, split between the two charities Movember, and the Royal British Legion.
This would not have been possible without the generous support of our members, fellow students, friends and families, who have all contributed towards this incredible figure.
We chose to raise money for the Royal British Legion Charity as we host our weekly socials at the Royal British Legion in Newport, and we wanted to support them with their annual poppy appeal fundraising. The Royal British Legion supports veterans and their families and ensures that they receive lifelong support following their service in the military forces.
Harper Cymru have also been taking part in Movember this year, fundraising as part of their annual campaign.
All male members of Harper Cymru have been growing moustaches throughout November with weekly updates on progress posted to our Facebook group.
In addition to this our social exec, Tomos Jones, kindly agreed to have his head shaved for the charity by Vice-Chairman Tommi Humphreys. Here is what Tom had to say about the experience.

“This November, I joined the Movember campaign by shaving my head in support of men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health.
While growing a moustache is the traditional Movember challenge, as a social exec for Harper Cymru I wanted to take the challenge further as I felt it was important to take part in a cause that affects many of our members.
Movember not only raises awareness but also encourages vital conversations about men’s health—issues that often go unspoken.
I am also part of the Mens Rugby Club at Harper Adams. The rugby club shave their heads every year to raise money for charity, however last year I paid myself out of it to keep my hair. This year I have decided to shave my head as I wanted to make a larger contribution to the charity, and hopefully inspire more people to donate on behalf of Harper Cymru.
The event was a success, with generous donations pouring in from students, friends, and family. The funds raised go towards research, education, and supporting those affected by cancer and mental health challenges.
For Harper Cymru, Movember is about much more than fundraising. It’s about showing solidarity, creating a supportive environment, and breaking the stigma around men’s health. Many of us have been personally affected by these issues, and by participating, we’re doing our part to make a difference.
I’m proud to have shaved my head for Movember, but even prouder to be part of a community that comes together to support such an important cause. The impact of Movember goes far beyond one month—it’s a year-round reminder to look after our health and each other.”
Winter Fair
To round off the month, Harper Cymru undertook their annual trip to the Royal Welsh Winter Fair on Monday 25th November, with nearly 50 students across all year groups heading to Builth Wells.
Students enjoyed the opportunity to engage with businesses involved in the agricultural community in Wales, as well as socialising with friends from across the country.
Harper Adams students were competing and exhibiting in a variety of competitions at the Winter Fair. The event also allowed members to catch up with third year students who are currently on placement.
The Winter Fair also presents a brilliant opportunity for networking with past and potential future employers, particularly for second and fourth year students who are seeking placement and graduate jobs for next year.
