At the start of the month, Harper students had the opportunity to visit Pickstock Telford Ltd, a family run beef processing facility in Shropshire. They received a very warm welcome, and would like to thank the team for the experience!
All Harper Adams students spend a year on work placement during their studies, to gain more real world experience in the agricultural industry. This month we hear from 3rd year student Mynor Beech about his placement with Dale Farming Ltd.
My name is Nerys Parry and I am currently in my second year at Harper Adams University studying Bsc (Hons) Agri-food Marketing with Business. I come from a beef and sheep farm in Monmouthshire, South-East Wales, where I live with my parents, two brothers and sister.
This month we talk to Lliwen Williams, Harper Adams student and Social Media Exec for the Harper Cymru society, about her background in farming, life at Harper, and her plans for the future.
Siân Teleri Jones, a Harper Adams Agri-Business student and North Wales contractor, details her enriching New Zealand agricultural experience and her advocacy for women in farming on ‘Grassmen’.
After a few weeks off during the summer, all students have returned to Harper Adams University. Some are starting on their first year, some on their second year, and some on their fourth year. At the start of the month all 2nd and 4th year Harper Cymru members came together to socialise at the local pub.
With the 23/24 academic year about to begin, let’s meet the society’s new cohort of exec’s who’ll be stepping up to run the society for the coming year.
The summer weather may have hindered many of the society members’ summer work efforts, it hasn’t stopped a few of them succeeding in other aspects within the agricultural sector. With the show season in full swing and an abundance of hangovers, I spoke to two of the members who collected awards at this years Royal Welsh Agricultural Show.
With the Harper Adams students away from the University campus for the summer we thought it was a perfect time to discover more about the work placements some complete as part of their studies. Here we find out about Gwyn Davies and his placement with Boarcross in Yorkshire.
